Aleksejevs v Abdulaev. IBO European title fight preview
MightyTips ambassador Jevgenijs "The Hurricane" Aleksejevs has another fight on the cards, this time against 29-year-old Argentinian Nicolas David “Mazazo” Veron.
Our undefeated boxing collaborator, who began his journey in combat sports as a promising kickboxer before turning his hands to boxing, will take on Veron at the Pabellon Municipal Sedavi in Valencia on Friday, 22nd December, aiming to extend his professional boxing record to 15-0.
He will fight on a card that sees Spanish sensation Johan Orozco face the undefeated Elias Federico Duguet and debutants David Andres Romero and Drew Kacey Dawson clash in the heavyweight division. Keep track of excellent bookmaker odds as soon as they are released on the best boxing betting apps for Android & iOS.
It is The Hurricane's second fight in Spain in a matter of months, with his previous outing on the Iberian peninsula in August ending in a comprehensive stoppage of French fighter Dmitri Trenel.
The boxer is quite excited for the upcoming fight and is diligently preparing for it:
I am facing an Argentinian fighter [Nicolas David Veron] in Valencia. It is going to be a tough fight. He has a powerful punch, especially with his right arm. My ultimate goal is a title fight, for the WBC belt preferably. The International Silver one for example. To find a proper venue so that everything looks nice, and have a go.
The Hurricane’s coach Igor Mesmer is even more so aware of the Veron’s dangerous sides but believes in the positive outcome:
Jevgenijs is facing a tough and experienced fighter from Argentina. We are not expecting a walk in the park. We approach this challenge the way we approach any fight, like it is a new stage in Jevgenijs' career. We know that every next fight is the hardest one. Everyone can expect a spectacular fight and a spectacular win for Jevgenijs Aleksejevs. I believe Jevgenijs is much stronger [than Veron] in every aspect, we just have to prove this. To show our strong side and expose his weaknesses. We have our game plan as we always do, not just Plan A, but also Plan B and Plan C. I would like Jevgenijs to have at least three fights over the next year and become a belt contender late in 2024. That would be decent given his record of 14 wins, 8 KOs and no defeats.
He doesn't have The Hurricane moniker for no reason, as he reminded onlookers in his dismantling of Trenel last time out. Renowned for his hand speed and sickening power, the Hurricane showed precisely what he could do in a decisive victory on the Costa del Sol, with the referee stopping the fight in round three following a trademark right upper-cut and left-hook combo.
The result means more than half of the wins from his flawless pro boxing record have been attained via knockout. It will give Veron plenty to think about coming into the fight.
Although betting operators are yet to release odds on the bout, we’re waiting for The Hurricane to be a heavy favourite. While his record is mixed at best (11-11-1), Veron has some real experience of big fight nights. Not least his appearance on the Jarrell Miller vs Lucas Browne undercard, which was broadcast live from Dubai on DAZN in March 2023.
He lost by unanimous decision to Russian boxer Samat Abdyrakhmanov on that night, but he gave a good account of himself to take it the distance, and he may prove a tough nut to crack for Aleksejevs.
However, you suspect he'll need to find a different gear to cause The Hurricane any issues.
